The Debate on Soy for Perimenopause Treatment

There is some controversy surrounding the use of soy as a treatment for perimenopausal symptoms. Specifically, soy products produced in the United States tend to be genetically modified and engineered, causing them to be largely ineffective, unhealthy and unsafe. By and large, soy is not recommended for most women, but the impact of soy and phytoestrogens is varied based on certain factors. For example, in Asian cultures where natural soy is consumed regularly from birth to death, the impact is more positive than in the U.S. where it is not a regular part or natural. Speak with a doctor and avoid self-medicating; examine hormone therapy as a possible treatment.
