According to John Sanfilippio, MD, professor at the University of Pittsburgh, “The problem is a lack of well-designed studies…we just don’t have robust research we would like.” In addition to effectiveness, there are also questions about the safety of some herbal supplements, and patients are encouraged to talk with their doctors prior to using them.
