What You Can Do to About Estrogen Breakdown

Are you concerned about breast health and ensuring that you are lowering your risk of developing cancer? Suzy Cohen has several suggestions for both women and men about estrogen breakdown and staying healthy.

Cohen notes that both men and women make estrogen and thus it is important for both to be aware this issue. In fact, she points out that if you are a male producing low levels of testosterone you are also making less estrogen as well. How your body breaks down estrogen into metabolites is important because they can influence the development of cancer.

Three kinds of estrogen and how to use them

They are estradiol, estrone, and estriol. Estradiol is the kind of estrogen most known for cancer development. Cohen has a few ideas as to how you can affect how your body produces estrogen so that the estradiol metabolites have less of a chance of developing into cancer.

  • Include Rosemary in your meals and brew as a tea. Known to have anti-cancer properties.
  • Flaxseed lignans can be processed by the human body into something resembling estrogen.
  • Sage has carnosic acid which helps to stop the spread of cancer and kill cancer cells.
  • Turmeric has curcumin which controls inflammatory cytokines, which are linked to cancer.
  • Not having enough iodine is often a problem for women with breast cancer.
  • Vitamin D has been shown to lower cancer risk.
  • Broccoli extract gives you the benefits of broccoli without having to eat several pounds a day of the vegetable. Can detox your body and good for breast and prostate health.

Besides these specific recommendations, Cohen recommends overhauling your diet. Get rid of junk food, highly processed meats, sugars, vegetable and canola oil, artificial sweeteners, and MSG. Instead, eat fresh organic vegetables, leafy greens, crunchy veggies. They are best steamed or sautéed. Also try pumpkin and chia seeds, as well as cold-water fish.
