Looking to boost fertility? Consider these 10 top ways to help the cause:

1: Maintain a healthy weight

Weight can affect hormonal regulation and thus affect ovulation. Maintaining a healthy body weight can help regulate normal ovulation and increase the probability of conceiving.

2: Keep sperm healthy

Don’t overlook sperm health, as you concern yourself with eggs and ovulation. In an attempt to keep sperm healthy, men are encouraged to maintain a healthy body weight, eat a healthy diet, prevent sexually transmitted diseases, manage stress, and exercise. Avoid smoking, alcohol consumption, and environmental toxins. Keep the scrotum cool and wear loose-fitting underwear.

3: Prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

Avoid contracting a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Consider the consistent use of condoms and limit the number of people you have sex with. Make sure your partner has been tested and does not have an STD.

4: Have sex

Have vaginal sex often during the woman’s fertile time of the month, generally 5 days prior to ovulation, and 2 to 3 days following ovulation. Having sex every day or two is the best plan for success.

5: Consider which lubrication you use

Carefully choose lubrication for intercourse. Home options include baby oil, canola oil or egg whites. While purchased varieties should allow for sperm motility, avoid water-based lubricants.

6: Drink alcohol wisely

Testosterone production is adversely affected, and incidences of impotence rise, with ingestion in men. Women experience ovulation disorders which impact conception ability.

7: Minimize coffee consumption

No more than 2 to 2.5 cups of coffee should be ingested to keep fertility optimal.

8: Do not smoke

Smoking isn’t good for anyone, but for male fertility specifically, it can cause decreased sperm production, motility issues, and DNA damage. Smoking also prematurely ages female ovaries.

9: Stop excessive exercise

Resist exercise more than 5 times per week to avoid fertility problems that suppress ovulation and the hormone progesterone.

10: Beware of toxins

Certain occupations and environments increase chemical exposure that also create infertility problems. Look for ways to limit exposure and detox.
